Account Manager – Medical Communications (12 month FTC)

About the Health Education team

The Health Education team is a specialist division focusing on medical communications. We work across a diverse range of therapeutic areas including oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, women’s health, cardiovascular, infectious, autoimmune and rare diseases. The team follows projects from pre to post launch, while working collaboratively with our global and UK-based clients to deliver creative and impactful medical communications that make a difference to healthcare professionals and patients.

Job overview

The Account Manager will have an overview of the account teams they work across, utilising their established medical education skills to drive the day-to-day account handling, project and financial management while providing support and mentoring to more junior team members across the account team to enable successful delivery.

The account manager will also be expected to expand their industry awareness, scientific knowledge, communication and project management skills to support in the identification of new opportunities. They will also support the senior team by contributing to client-handling activities and playing an increasing role in strategic input into their accounts.

Core responsibilities and capabilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day running of client campaigns and projects
  • Be the main point of contact for the client, communicating proactively and responding promptly
  • Confidently present and take part in client meetings and brainstorms
  • Work with account leads to set feasible delivery timeframes for projects and client requests to ensure client expectations are met
  • Actively flag issues and suggest solutions to problems encountered to senior team
  • Provide team members with clear and accurate project briefs, delegating work appropriately and providing timely and clear feedback on work received
  • Assist with budget development, tracking, reconciliation and invoicing, proactively flagging potential overspend to account leads
  • Develop the ability to effectively manage client expectations, challenging clients where appropriate
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of client business, industry, competitors and business objectives
  • Identify opportunities for organic growth with existing clients
  • Highlight any training and development needs of the junior teams to their line managers or senior team
  • Support and mentor the junior team to set expectations and help them to grow and develop their skills
  • Assist in new business by completing desk research, collecting information, creating competitor profiles and preparing slides for pitch proposals, as well as contributing to live pitches

Skills/experience Needed

  • Educated to degree level (scientific degree is preferable but not essential)
  • Account management experience within a medical education agency
  • Good people management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Competent financial management skills
